About the SGS

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote, share, and celebrate the art of the guitar and its music by providing education and performance opportunities to people of diverse cultures, ages, abilities, and economic means.

Our Core Values

Diversity and Equity

SGS strives to provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for everyone. We celebrate diversity and promote social equity by supporting access to the arts for underrepresented members of the greater Sacramento community.

Respect and Tolerance

SGS cultivates an environment of respect and tolerance for all participants (members, staff, participants).

Community Engagement

We develop relationships that make a positive difference in our community and introduce new audiences to the art of the guitar.

Nurturing All Generations

SGS believes that music has the power to inspire all people to reach their fullest potential. We believe that listening to music nourishes the heart and soul, and that the study of music supports academic ability as well as helping to develop life skills.

Supporting Artists

SGS offers performance opportunities that encompass broad genres of guitar music. We provide guitarists with a platform for sharing their art with our community.

Supporting Music Education

SGS supports local school music education programs. We provide low cost guitar rentals for in person and virtual music classes through local schools. Additionally, SGS offers schools the opportunity to have both local and visiting guitarists perform for students.

Supporting Music Teachers

SGS provides opportunities for member music teachers to connect with potential students and to supplement their income by providing instruction through several SGS programs including the guitar orchestra, veterans in the arts, and strum for fun.
