Support Veterans

Our Veterans put their lives on the line to protect and defend our country.  Their service experience sometimes leaves them with post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) a condition that may ultimately lead to suicide.

Mental health professionals have discovered that music has healing powers to help calm the mind and bring joy and meaning back into the lives of those brave enough to serve our country.  As such, a national nonprofit organization called Guitars4Vets has the mission to help veterans improve their mental health thru music.  Their 10 week program brings in volunteer guitar players in the community to help veterans learn to play the guitar.  Once the have complete the program, they receive a guitar as a gift and a certificate of completion.

That’s where the Sacramento Guitar Society comes in. With a grant from the California Arts Council’s Veterans in Arts program, we are able to extend that learning experience for these veterans by offering them an additional 10 weeks of private lessons with a teacher-member of SGS.  In addition, they are offered the opportunity to join our free guitar orchestra program to reconnect with their community and interact with others who enjoy the music of the guitar.

But this grant program requires matching donations, and that’s where YOU come in.  Please consider supporting this program as a way to say THANK YOU to our veterans who have suffered as a result of their service.  Please donate today.  Thank you.
